Hey there, Pillars families! We are so excited to pull back the curtain on something we’ve been dreaming up for a long time. If you’ve been with us for a while, you know that at Pillars Behavioral Health, we aren’t just about "checking boxes" or going through the motions of therapy. We believe that every child is a unique masterpiece, created by God with a specific purpose and a mountain of potential.
When we talk about in-home ABA therapy, we’re talking about meeting your child exactly where they are: in their living room, at their kitchen table, and in the heart of your family life. But we also know that as your child grows, their needs change. Sometimes, you hit a specific hurdle that feels a bit taller than the others. Maybe it’s a sudden struggle with potty training, or perhaps you’re feeling completely overwhelmed by an upcoming IEP meeting at school.
That’s why we are officially launching our Specialty Support Tracks. Think of it as a way to "supercharge" your child’s journey by adding a specialized layer of expertise right when and where you need it most.
The Reality of ABA: We’re All Humans (And We All Have Passions!)
Let’s get real for a second about how the world of autism therapy in Texas and North Carolina usually works. When you start your journey with a provider, your child is matched with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Now, every single BCBA at Pillars is a rockstar. They have their Master’s degrees, they’ve passed grueling certification exams, and they’ve logged thousands of hours of supervised experience. They are highly competent "generalists" who can handle a wide range of behavioral and developmental needs.
However, just like doctors or teachers, BCBAs are humans with their own unique passions and "zones of genius."
One BCBA might be an absolute wizard when it comes to nonverbal communication and helping a child find their voice for the very first time. Another might have spent years focusing on play-based social skills, while a third might be the "toileting whisperer" who can solve even the toughest bathroom battles.
In a perfect world, we’d always match every kiddo with the BCBA whose specific "niche" perfectly aligns with their biggest current struggle. But the reality of scheduling, insurance credentialing, and caseloads means that isn’t always possible. You might have a fantastic BCBA who is doing wonderful work, but you find yourself wishing you had just a little more specialized "oomph" in one specific area.

Bridging the Gap: The "Tutoring" Model for ABA
We looked at this challenge and asked ourselves: How can we give our families the absolute best of both worlds?
We want you to keep the BCBA you love: the one who knows your child’s favorite snack and exactly how to cheer them up after a tough day: while also giving you access to our team’s collective "brain trust."
The best way to describe our Specialty Support Tracks is to compare it to a school elective or a tutoring program. Imagine your child is doing great in most of their classes, but they are really struggling with math. You don’t switch their entire school; you just bring in a math tutor to provide that extra, specialized focus until they find their footing.
Our Specialty Support Tracks work the same way. You can now "check off" specific areas where your family needs an extra layer of support. This allows us to bring in a second BCBA: one who has deep expertise and a true passion for that specific area: to supplement your child’s existing programming.
What Do These Tracks Look Like?
We’ve identified several key areas where specialized knowledge makes a world of difference. Here are just a few of the tracks we are rolling out to provide the most compassionate behavior therapy possible. And just as important, these aren’t the only options. We want this to feel flexible and supportive, not boxed in. We already have many more areas we can support, and we’re continuing to develop additional tracks based on what families actually need.
1. The Nonverbal Communication Track
For our kiddos who haven't quite found their vocal "engine" yet, this track focuses on the foundational steps of vocalization. As we’ve talked about before, it’s not just about echoing sounds; it’s about understanding that making a sound gets you something. This track is led by specialists who know how to build that "iceberg" of communication from the bottom up.
2. The "Toileting & Self-Help" Track
Let’s be honest: potty training is stressful for any parent, but when you add developmental delays into the mix, it can feel impossible. Our specialists in this track have seen it all and have the data-driven strategies (and the patience!) to help your child achieve this massive milestone of independence.
3. The Play and Social Skills Track
Play is the work of childhood. Some of our learners need extra help moving from "playing next to" a peer to "playing with" a peer. This track focuses on expanding interests, turn-taking, and the joy of social connection.

4. The Severe Behavior Track
Some families need extra support navigating behaviors that feel intense, unsafe, or overwhelming in daily life. This track is designed to bring in specialized clinical support for more significant behavior concerns, with a focus on understanding the why behind the behavior, building safer replacement skills, and creating a plan that feels supportive for the whole family.
5. The Toleration Adaptation Track
Some children and young adults need more focused support learning to tolerate the everyday things life asks of them, like transitions, waiting, hygiene routines, medical visits, community outings, clothing changes, or hearing "not right now." This track helps build flexibility and tolerance in a gradual, compassionate way so those moments feel more manageable over time.
6. The IEP & School Navigation Track
The school system can feel like a foreign country with its own language. This track provides an expert who can help you navigate meetings, understand your rights, and ensure that your child’s school environment is actually supporting the goals we are working on at home.

Two Ways to Get Extra Support
We know that every family has a different "bandwidth" for therapy, so we’ve designed two different ways to utilize these Specialty Support Tracks:
- The Programming Model: In this version, the Specialty Track BCBA works directly with your current BCBA and our Program Director. They will actually write specific protocols, supervise sessions focused on that specialty, and track the data with a fine-toothed comb. It’s a collaborative, "hands-on" approach to making a breakthrough.
- The Family Guidance Model: Sometimes, the "work" isn't just for the child: it’s for the parents! In this model, the specialist provides extra family guidance sessions. They might not supervise the daily sessions, but they spend time with you, the parents, teaching you the specific tools and mindsets needed to handle that specialty area at home. This is all about empowering you to be the expert on your own child.
Why This Matters: A Commitment to Quality
At Pillars Behavioral Health, "Passion" isn't just a word on our website; it’s one of our core values. We believe that when a professional is working within their passion, the results are exponentially better. By creating these tracks, we are allowing our BCBAs to lean into what they love, which in turn provides your family with a level of quality and expertise that is rare in the world of autism therapy in North Carolina and Texas.
We aren't just trying to "provide a service." We are trying to be the "pillars" that support your family as you build a life of joy and independence. We believe that God has big plans for your kiddo, and we want to make sure we are using every tool in our arsenal to help them reach those goals.
This isn't about replacing the beautiful relationship you have with your current BCBA. It’s about surrounding your family with a "village" of experts who are all pulling in the same direction.
